British-based electrosurfbilly band, Flirt With Danger have released their debut album, ‘The Mini-Album’. The music is an imaginative, provocative and eclectic mix of neo-rockabilly, surf, 60s garage and proto-punk, combined with analogue synth sounds. The lyrics draw on both modern concerns and retro-futuristic imagery, very much in line with the burgeoning atompunk artistic scene. It represents a significant departure from the existing UK music scene and has already attracted considerable interest in the USA, particularly in California and Texas. The tracks were written by Les ‘Spaceman’ Rowley, the former keyboard player of South London indie rock band, Brilliant Pink, theatrical heavy metallers, Aunt May, and drum’n’bass trio, Tectonic. Mr Rowley said, “This is just a taste of a large catalogue of material that provides a refreshing alternative to a popular music scene that’s become somewhat staid and formulaic in recent years.” In true punk DIY spirit, Flirt With Danger are not signed to a record company, and the mini-album is both self-financed and self-produced. Bobby Wilson son of the late hit recording artist Jackie Wilson and born in New York was brought up in the foster care system in Carolina named Bobby Brookes. Shortly after leaving the navy he discovered his real identity, that he was the son of legendary Jackie Wilson. Bobby completed two years of study at the Midlands Technical College in Columbia followed by a semester at The University of Carolina in electrical engineering and then went on to serve in the United States Navy. Subsequently Bobby Wilson followed in his father’s footsteps and made a career in music scoring a major success in the production of Serendipity at the Orleans Casino he was also successful headlining on cruise ships. Yellow Creatures release new E.P ‘Spectrum’
‘Spectrum’ is the third EP from Newcastle based Yellow Creatures. It follows their 2014 release ‘The Year of Everything & Nothing’ EP which saw the band being selected to play the BBC 6 Music Festival in 2015 where they were introduced by Tom Robinson. Yellow Creatures influences range from current pop and alternative artists such as Tame Impala, Solange and Radiohead to the 1960s Musique Concrete of Delia Derbyshire. After exploring a more synth-driven direction on their 2015 track ‘Calendar Man’ which was included in The Tipping Point blog and received airplay on BBC Introducing, Spectrum’ is the most developed and experimental record Yellow Creatures have released to date. The seven songs are a collage of found sounds and pop melodies incorporating field recordings, electronic beats, swelling synths and polyrhythmic drums. Lyrically ‘Spectrum’ is dreamy and pensive with frontman Marc Bird exploring themes both personal and universal. ‘Last Census’ is a frenzied pulsating prophecy of what life might be like after the last-ever census on Earth while ‘Pressing Buttons’ is a shimmering, euphoric ode to how modern technology affects our personal relationships.
