The movement’s leaders were Gente de Zona, which was not yet known outside Cuba. When Pablo arrived in Chile, he told Patricio Fredz, a classmate and friend from The Mackay School, about the idea of making an album with the best covers of these cubatones.  Patricio suggested to Pablo that he should compose his songs and make an album with original songs since he had had this innate talent since his school days. The idea was fundamental for the future of the group. They contact Luis Cheul Hola, another former student of Colegio Mackay, with studies in Germany, as a Music Producer and Arranger. All this is recorded in Luis’ studio in […]

Music Mirror reflects on new releases from Emy Perez

Emy Perez is a Venezuelan singer/songwriter known for her crazy looks and quirky pop songs. At a young age Emy lost herself in music and pursued that dream in the USA. In her native Venezuela, she supported headliners and went onto to sign to an American record label. This led to her performing alongside such great artists as Shakira, Eros Ramazotti and Earth, Wind & Fire. In North and South American, Emy toured live, wrote songs for other artists and worked with well-known producers Shane Stoner and Steve Morales, who produced Enrique Iglesias, Christina Aguliera, Ricki Martin and Celine Dion among others. Shane Stoner says, “Emy is an amazing songwriter. She knows how to capture the essence of a feeling into words.” Emy produced an album with Ricardo Eddy Martinez, who provided horn arrangements for Miami Sound Machine, and platinum winning producer, Keith Morrison. Unfortunately this album was never released and Emy moved to Europe to study music at Conservatorium Alkmaar in the Netherlands. There she gathered all her strength and planned a comeback with a bang. Now in the Netherlands, Emy rediscovered herself by writing and performing music live. She celebrates life and tells her story on her latest […]

Glastonbury 2014 – independent weekend review

2014 festival shows how diverse cultural roots are inspiring pop mainstream With 200,000 people, or a veritable city, airdropped into a huge farm in Somerset, promising performers of all persuasions were going to attract a crowd. Acknowledged As acknowledged by Sophie Ellis Bextor, pop and disco have once again found their places at Glastonbury, allowing audiences and acts to bond over some classics to sing along and dance to. Eager faces of all ages could be seen lip-synching to every word along with Ellie Goulding, Bryan Ferry, Caro Emerald and Dolly Parton. It was wonderful to see the return of lighter mainstream genres, popular for good reason that they are great to let your hair down to, singing and dancing along, rekindling happy memories. Fans can be themselves Compared to some harder dance genres that have dominated the charts, pop and disco say “I like this whatever you think” and are free of the occasional self-consciousness of rap or hip-hop while leaving fans to be themselves without prescription dress, moves and lingo. Evident this year was the rise of the DJ to rock star stats, as Sasha, DJ Pierre, David Morales, Shy FX, Above and Beyond and many more entertained […]
