An artist, poet, musician and international soul-traveller called Vocaliz releases his latest single In Love With Life. Born in Cameroon and based in Brooklyn, New York, Vocaliz uses Hip Hop to deliver his message about finding positives and revealing hidden truths. Vocaliz has been song-writing since his early teens and says: “My voice is the only instrument that I have been using since I started writing songs,” therefore his name comes from the word ‘vocal’. The new single by UK based musician and songwriter Ollyi.on is called Joy!, which celebrates this positive and hard-won emotional state. Ollyi.on is a singer/songwriter and producer based in Farnborough, Hants in the U.K who plays the flute, saxophone, keyboards, bass, guitar, drums, violin, trumpet and harmonica. As a multi-instrumentalist, it is not surprising that jazz has inspired his prolific songwriting to date. Ollyi.on started jamming with friends from an early age and has always been excited by music. Kes was born in South Africa during Apartheid and then her parents decided to flee the country and raise the family in rural England, having experienced many life-threatening situations. Subsequently, after the London bombings in 2005, Kes moved to Norwich and played the local scene in her family band Fuzzballs, solo gigs as Kes C, in cover bands and as a wedding singer. Kes C now lives in Shropshire. Growing up surrounded by a musical family, Kes listened to blues and soul and wrote her first song on guitar aged 12. She sung in school choirs and landed lead parts in musicals, then moved to London aged 18 to pursue her musical career. To develop her diversity and interpretation of songs, Kes experimented with musical styles such as soul, funk, heavy rock, dance and trip hop. Singing first in a rock and 90s college band called Genius in her early 20s and went on to tour with Misnomer, a trip-hop band with some radio success, who headlined Astoria and other London venues. London based Azrock and Pogo are an experimental duo. Azrock, a songwriter, musician and producer, also writes fiction, is a graphic artist and software programmer. He wanted to combine all his talents and when he first heard the voice of Pogo he was blown away by her vocals and the recording project was born. Together, Azrock and Pogo are driven to produce timeless music across all the genres. Azrock and Pogo were one of the original artists to reach the Hall of Fame on artist funding website SliceThePie and were selected as a winner for the £15,000 prize due to the interest generated from thousands of reviewers. Another song of theirs ‘I’ll Wait Here’ was a top 5 finalist for ‘Song of the Year’ competition. Until 2008, Boz Hayward was a punk musician who once rehearsed in rooms next door to the Happy Mondays and Oasis in the basement of Manchester’s famous Boardwalk nightclub, back in its heyday. When his bassist and close friend died, Boz turned to folk and acoustic pop to focus on his songwriting. The Bozchestra is the affectionate name for Boz’s band who accompany him on an array of instruments combining guitar, mariachi bass, violins, trumpets, keyboards, glockenspiel, the Russian domra, mandolin, dulcimer and slide guitar with percussion and drums. Frequent line-up The most frequent Bozchestra line-up are Phil Robinson on ‘guitarron’ bass, Mark Greer on slide guitar, Rick Burrows on brass, Dan Bridgwood-Hill on strings and keys and Rob Haynes on percussion and drums. Born in Hereford, Boz’s family moved around with his father’s RAF work. Boz went to Manchester Poly and based his musical operations from Manchester’s thriving Boardwalk basement rehearsal studios. James Pearce, 63, wastes no more time to launch his own career as a singer-songwriter after successful surgery to remove a brain tumour. James Pearce was once an apprentice upholsterer before becoming a Mod, riding a Lambretta Zoo SXSpecial and absorbing the music of the 60s and 70s, especially Johnny Duncan and The Blue Grass Boys. Singer Although a self-declared failed guitarist, James took to singing and ran a karaoke night with his brother John, whom James claims is the better singer. This resulted in James recording an album of covers of his favourite songs such as Johnny Duncan’s ‘Last Train to San Fernando’. In 2009 James penned his first song: “She Came Walking”. Happily married with two children, James is now a grandfather, which seems to be all the rage amongst Glastonbury’s headline performers.
