The Charlatans Roundhouse, Chalk Farm–Review

Formed in the West Midlands, a frontman from Cheshire and with a vast association with the Madchester scene, The Charlatans roots are somewhat confusing. But tonight, they make Camden their home. For the first time in its twenty six year history, this evening the Q awards opens its doors in Camden and mixes the fans with the musicians. It’s not everyday you catch a glimpse of The Smiths legend Johnny Marr sipping a lemonade whilst chatting with fans. In addition, to conclude the ceremony, indie icons The Charlatans perform a full headline slot. We are in for a treat. Bar a few tracks taken from last years superb ‘Modern Nature’ LP, Tim Burgess and Co take us back to the 90’s. For an hour and a quarter music becomes exciting again. Besides drawing influences from seminal bands such as New Order and Joy Division, The Charlatans still hold a refreshing, individual sound. With many tracks being dominated by keyboards and organs, embodied with deep bass lines and dance beats. It’s almost a genre of their own. Their most successful and historic LP ‘Tellin Stories’ from 1997 dictates the set. ‘With No Shoes’, ‘North Country Boy’ and the record’s […]

Phil Collins was forced to cancel a U.K. TV appearance due to a mystery illness on Tuesday morning (08Nov16). The In the Air Tonight singer was due to appear on British TV show Lorraine, which had been teased on Monday’s (07Nov16) episode, but host Lorraine Kelly ended up having to issue an apology as Phil cancelled last minute. However the musician did apologise for his absence in a video he shot in his own living room. “Hello Lorraine,” Phil told the camera. “I know you’re not very happy probably because I should be there with you rather then be sitting here. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be there Lorraine, you know we go back a long way. I’ll be there as soon as I can OK. Love to all and thanks a lot.” His cancellation came on the same day that the former Genesis star was confirmed as a headliner for 2017’s Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park (BST). It was only recently that Phil announced a string of shows across Europe next year (17) as part of his Not Dead Yet tour, though BST on 30 June (17) will mark his biggest ever solo concert and his only U.K. […]

Gwen Stefani’s new album “saved her life”

Gwen Stefani’s new album “saved her life” following her divorce from Gavin Rossdale. The No Doubt frontwoman split from the British rocker last summer (15), after 13 years of marriage, and the couple’s divorce was finalised in April (16) – a month after she released This Is What the Truth Feels Like – and she insists the experience of writing the songs and expressing herself through music helped her cope with the pain. “It released me from that feeling of hopelessness,” she tells Glamour magazine. “When I was in the studio… it was like, ‘I need to be here right now. This is the only place I feel good. It doesn’t matter what comes out of this, as far as my career – this isn’t about a hit. It’s about saving my life’.” Gwen is now dating country singer Blake Shelton, who divorced his wife, Miranda Lambert, last year (15) and she reveals he was also a big inspiration for her while she was recording the album. “Finding somebody who was going through the exact same experience? That was an inspiration,” she says. “He was a friend to me when I needed a friend. An unexpected gift. And that became […]

Feeder live at The Roundhouse, Chalk Farm–Review

Following a four year hiatus Welsh rockers Feeder return with a new LP accompanied with a sell out tour. Still sounding as relevant as ever, ‘All Bright Electric’ is classic old school Feeder and perhaps their heaviest record to date. As 9pm approaches, Feeder take to the stage and kick off the set with new track ‘Another Day On Earth’. Next up they blare out comeback single ‘Universe Of Life’, which combines heavily distorted guitars and a melody which proves difficult to forget. With the amps seemingly on full blast, Feeder have the crowd’s attention. Following the tragic loss of original drummer Jon Lee back in 2002, understandably the band demonstrated a softer and more sombre approach to their next few records. However tonight’s set is anything but. Packed with their trademark heavy sound and not an acoustic guitar in sight. ‘Feeling A Moment’, lead single from their Pushing The Senses LP achieves an instant connection with the fans as frontman Grant Nicholas is forced to up his vocals in order to be heard. The same can be said for the title track from the same record which follows. For four minutes we are all taken back to 1997 as […]

Indie Britpop Legends Oasis to reform in 2017

So it really looks like Oasis are reforming for 2017. They just aren’t telling you. Noise11 has heard of one UK rock band from the 90s with a very close connection to Liam Gallagher may have been tapped as the opening act for some of the shows so fans could be in for the ‘ride’ of their life. The Liam and Noel Gallagher rivalry has well and truly been mended, although a public display of antagonism may work in the favour of publicity. Oasis last played together with Noel and Liam Gallagher on 22 August 2009 at the V Festival in Stafford. The final song the Gallagher’s played together was a cover of ‘I Am The Walrus’ by The Beatles. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USDTRWdbJw0] After that the last few years has seen drama between the two siblings unseen since Alexis Colby and Krystle Carrington bitch slapped each other endlessly until Dynasty went off the air. Oasis released a 3CD 20th-anniversary edition of ‘Be Here Now’ this year. The original album featured Johnny Depp on guitar on the track ‘Fade In-Out’. The new 3CD version featured Oasis performing The Beatles ‘Help’. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9-MdbXhQBQ] Since the break-up of Oasis Liam Gallagher has released two […]
