Sam Smith caught in between the “worst hate sandwich in pop.’

Music execs were apparently worried Sam Smith would be caught in between the “worst hate sandwich in pop.’ The British singer stormed the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, walking away with four awards and cementing his status as one of the world’s biggest music stars. Many of his A-list friends were on hand on show their support, including alleged feuding pop stars Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. At an after show party it was Katy who was on hand to help Sam Smith celebrate his mammoth evening, with Taylor said to be noticeably absent. ‘Katy hugged and toasted Sam’s success with pals. They stayed together for about 45 minutes. Katy seemed delighted with his wins and kept hugging him,” a source divulged to New York Daily News’ Confidenti@l. ‘Taylor was expected at the bash but ducked away. Execs worried that Sam could get caught in the worst hate sandwich in pop.’ Katy’s on-off boyfriend John Mayer recently brought Taylor, who he also previously dated, up in an interview, saying the blonde star would be avoiding him at the Grammys. This apparently added even more fuel to the spat, with Taylor reportedly feeling bullied. However Sam isn’t letting his friends’ feud […]

Mark Ronson New Album news

Mark Ronson thinks his new album is “a grown-man record”. The British DJ and music producer released his fourth studio album Uptown Special last month. The record has been well received on both sides of the Atlantic, which is a relief to the 39-year-old as he was keen to take a different approach to his previous work. “Uptown Special is like a grown-man record. It’s maybe the first time where I decided to divorce the DJ element from my name and just make a record I’d want to listen to, and worry later about how people might categorise it,” he explained to British newspaper Metro. It’s been five years since Mark’s last album, Record Collection, and he admits he was acutely aware of how much music can change in a short space of time. It left him wondering if there would even be any demand for his music any more, despite his past successes. “It had been a while since my last record and people’s tastes change even quicker now, so I was looking around and thinking, what kind of record am I supposed to make? Do people even care if I make a record?” he said. “It took me […]

Music Mirror UK gives “Rise” by Madam Voodoo a whirl

Madam Voodoo consists of Cass, 7even and Dr G, whose influences stem from electronica from 1990s including psychedelic trance (psytrance), grunge and punk. One of lead vocalist Cass’s earliest memories is using her grandparent’s dining table as a stage for her rendition of ‘Tits and Ass” from the musical A Chorus Line. Emerging In the early 2000’s Cass became a pioneer of the Melbourne shuffle after her all-consuming love of dance and trance music drew her into the emerging underground rave scene. Songwriter 7Even draws inspiration from the depths of his social conscience to create lyrics and melodies that bring Madam Voodoo’s songs vividly to life. Dr G previously featured in the down-tempo trip hop duo Aventine and, in the late 90s, appeared in a Coke ad shot from a helicopter above the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Electronic Madam Voodoo’s sound, a thumping electronic music with a strong pop sensibility, is composed, recorded and mixed in their own studio. The new single “Rise” has already been play-listed on Australia’s Triple J, Matchbox Radio 24, Pop Shop FM, London FM, Radio ZA Africa and Discover80s.fm. The song was described by Noise Porn Magazine at the Miami Winter Music Conference as an “exciting […]
